Longan is a small, round fruit native to Southern China and Southeast Asia, closely related to the Lychee. Its name, comes from its black seed showing through the translucent flesh, resembling an eyeball. To produce dried Longan, the fruit is heated to shrink the flesh, then peeled and slowly dried over a fire.

In Chinese Medicine, Longan is classified as a warm or heaty fruit, making it a common ingredient in soups, teas, and postpartum confinement foods.
